One of the world's best surfing beaches. Gingerly manoeuvred Bertha down through the Machair along old trails and was relieved and pleased to reach the Northern tip of the bay in one piece.

My last painting on Tiree for 2023. A grey wet unpromising day, it being my last on the island, I needed to make it count. Went up to Vaul, an astoundingly beautiful place with ancient ruined black houses showing off their remarkable masonry. A gorgeous bay. hinting at its brilliant colours hiding under the grey rain, a rusting seed drill warranting a closer look. Lazy Atlantic swell crumping onto the rocks. Corncrakes rasping on the machair.

Often at the end of the day, the light rewards those still outside with a dazzling show. This was really only the beginning of the end of the day with the sun reflecting off the sea in a thousand sparkles as it dropped down playing hide and seek among the scudding clouds.

Ternand, the medieval village perched on a hilltop in the South of the Beaujolais was one of the fortified villages that protected the approaches to Lyon. The camellias are first to brave the chill of early spring, taking their chances against the frequent frosts to delight and show off their delicate and exuberant blossom.
